A while back, we posted about Henry the Dog, who helps our vets. Henry resides at the Minnesota Veterans Home-Minneapolis, giving lots of unconditional love to his ‘room-mates’.
Henry came from a home in Kentucky. He was surrendered by the children of an elderly couple that could no longer care for him properly, and then brought to Homeward Bound, an Animal Adoption Agency in Minnesota after being found in poor condition.
One of the volunteers at Homeward Bound, who is also a social worker at the Minnesota Veterans Home, discovered Henry. Henry went through several rounds of “interviews” with the Veteran’s home team and residents. In the end, it was his calm and loving character that won everyone over.
Pat Soulak spearheaded the program to bring Henry to the Veteran’s home and took the concept from idea to reality. While it was her original idea, it was the residents who fully supported the cause and helped make it happen.
Because, how can you say ‘no’ to Henry?
Classic Corvettes of Minnesota donated the original sum to pay for Henry’s adoption, with the support of other local businesses like Chuck & Don’s Pet Food Outlet who donates his favorite food – Iam’s Mini Chunks.
Henry has had quite a year at the Veteran’s home with everything from a raccoon attack to an 18 lb weight-gain from all the delicious treats he receives from residents. In return, Henry does what he does best: sharing his winning personality and unlimited love with the vets.
