Chuck & Don’s Skijoring Loppet Re-cap

This past weekend Chuck & Don’s Skijoring Loppet and One Dog Skijoring Championship took place at Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. The lack of snow made it a challenge, but human and dog participants were up to the challenge.

Skijoring with a dog is a cross country winter sport. The dog (or dogs) are harnessed and connected to a cross-country skier. While the skier provides power with the skies and poles, the dogs add extra power by running and pulling.

One of the local Minneapolis media personalities, Eric Perkins of KARE 11 tested his skijoring ability.

To see more photos of the event, visit us on Facebook.

Additional information from the two days of activities can also be found at CityofLakesLoppet.com.

It’s a very unusual winter we’re having in Minnesota. So unusual the St. Paul Winter Carnival Sled Dog Races were cancelled due to predicted unsafe ice and snow conditions.

Instead, the North Star Sled Dog Club held a community sled dog event on Saturday, January 28, 2012, showing the fun of working with sled dogs.

Fingers and paws crossed for GOOD sled dog weather in 2013!

Celebrate National Dog Week!

Posted by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 26-09-2011

Ask any dog and you will be told that every week is national dog week!

But humans, being what we are, have set aside September 26th-30th as National Dog Week as a week to mindfully be appreciative of your canine companion and what your dog likes.

We have added a twist to that: we want to know what your dog loves about fall season! Is it the cooler weather, running in the leaves, playing outside with you on delightful autumn days?

Go to our Facebook page between now and September 30th and  share with us and others what your dog loves about fall.  If you have a photo, be sure to include it with your posting.

We’re Here, We’re There….

We’re everywhere…….in the Denver area that is! Anybody remember that old Rogers and Hammerstein song “June is Bustin’ Out All Over”? That’s what we’re doing in Colorado.

It started with the opening of our Denver-Cherry Creek store on January 25, 2011. We are now opening stores in:

  • Centennial, Colorado, located in The Streets at SouthGlenn shopping center. We will be open there by October 25th
  • Littleton, Colorado, located in Kipling Marketplace. This store will be open by Christmas
  • Lakewood, Colorado, located in Lochwood Square- opening soon

Watch our website, ChuckandDons.com for updates on these new stores and for information on additional expansion plans.

We are looking forward to being the ‘new kid on the block’ in these Colorado neighborhoods and participating in these already established pet communities. You can depend on us to bring the same premium pet food, products, expertise and customer service to you which we offer at all of our stores!

Dog Park Safety

Posted by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 17-09-2011

Hey! This is HappyDogGeno writing this post. Because sometimes the best one to write a post is someone who has their nose to the ground and tail in the air.

You know what I mean.

So I’m going to give you the lowdown on Dog Park Safety, of course from a dog’s point of view.

  • Know your dog. Not every dog enjoys going to the dog park, not every dog has good manners when it comes to meeting new dogs. Now, my brothers and I have exceptionally good manners when it comes to going to the dog park, but just between you and me, I’ve seen some dogs run up and start arguments with other dogs.
  • Supervise your dog at all times. Yes, this is important because dogs are very, very good at scouting out new areas, giving chase to squirrels and taking an opportunity to run through a gate should one be open.
  • Let your dog off leash as soon as you are in the park. If you’re at an off-leash dog park, this makes total sense, doesn’t it? A dog on leash when others are leashed can become frightened or aggressive.
  • Don’t bring food to the dog park – because we dogs have good noses and can smell food a mile away!
  • Don’t bring toys to the dog park. It may be your toy, but if it’s in my mouth, it’s my toy!
  • Pick up after your dog.
  • Watch your dog for signs that he/she is ready to leave. While we dogs like to run and have fun at dog parks, naps and resting up are quite important also.

The dog park can be a fun place for all of us when common courtesy and dog park etiquette are observed!

We are happily preparing for The Fourth Annual Pins for Pets…..bowl for the fix fundraiser.   It will be held Saturday, August 13th and Sunday, August 14th 2011 at Flaherty’s Arden Bowl. We’ve expanded the event to two days this year – twice the fun!

The recipient this year is Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program, Inc. (MNSnap). MNSnap’s mission is “to end the suffering and death of homeless animals due to pet overpopulation by providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible spay and neuter services to Minnesota shelters, rescue organizations, and the companion animals of the low-income community.”  Our Pins for Pets goal is to raise enough funds to pay for 2,000 spay and neuter procedures.

To sign up to bowl and/or facilitate donations, we have setup a page at FirstGiving. Whether you register as a bowler or would like to make an online donation to this cause, instructions are available here.

Another way to participate in  The Fourth Annual Pins for Pets…..bowl for the fix fundraiser is by bringing your dog(s) to one of our Dog Nail Trimming Clinics being held between June 26 and August 6.  All donations will go to Pins for Pets……bowl for the fix fundraiser and, your dog will feel better with trimmed nails!

We hope you will consider helping us reach our goal!
